A DRUNKEN Droitwich man rang the police after crashing his car on the way to visit his brother, Worcester magistrates heard.

Spencer Craig, aged 21, admitted driving with excess alcohol, as well as driving without a licence or insurance, following the incident in the early hours of Sunday, May 12.

John Barnett, prosecuting, said Craig rang police to tell them he had crashed his car on the town's Saltway.

"He then admitted to them that he had no driving licence or insurance," he said.

Craig, of Singer Hill, Droitwich, provided a positive breath test and was taken to Worcester Police Station where he gave a breath test reading of 81 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

"In the police interview he said he had a drink problem and had drunk heavily that evening. He said he was going to drive to Birmingham."

Barry Newton, defending, said his client had long-standing health problems.

"He has been on medication, but this has not been helping him. He has been depressed and has had anxiety attacks."

Craig was banned from driving for 20 months and fined £100 for drink driving, for having no insurance he was fined £100, and was fined another £50 for driving without a licence. He was ordered him to pay £55 court costs.
