A LOTTERY grant of £5,000 has been awarded to Great Malvern Primary School.

Two-thirds of the money will be spent on PE and games equipment and the rest on specialist coaching.

"This equipment will also be of great benefit during games lessons and after-school clubs," said PE co-ordinator Claire Smout. "Coaching and equipment will obviously benefit staff and children, not only now but in the future as well."

Mrs Smout thanked Avril Irish, of Malvern Hills District Council, for her encouragement and help in putting together the Lottery bid.

Headteacher Jonathan Sides said: "Great Malvern Primary has an excellent record in competitive games but we believe in providing every possible opportunity for all children to enjoy sport and games. I've been very fortunate to have inherited such a hard-working and dedicated staff. Mrs Smout works part-time but gives full-time commitment to the school. The success of this bid is down to her alone."
