COMMUTERS on the northbound M5 around Worcester were stuck in massive tailbacks this morning after a car transporter crashed through the central barrier.
The car transporter was travelling north- bound on the motorway when it crashed through the central reservation between junctions seven and eight.
No one was injured during the incident at 3am today and no other vehicles were involved.
The transporter was not carrying any cars.
All three northbound lanes were closed for 15 minutes after the incident and a Range Rover was used to drag the transporter out of the barrier. It was removed from the road by 4.30am.
Sgt Gary Higgs, of the central motorway police, said repair crews were still working frantically this morning.
"When the lorry hit the barrier it hit a lamp-post, which exposed some wires so the power supply had to be cut off and the lamp-posts sawn off," said Sgt Higgs.
"We cannot open it until it is safe."
Throughout the early morning the road was reduced to one lane, which caused tailbacks stretching all the way back to the Strensham Services.
A central motorway police spokeswoman said the cause of the accident is still being investigated.
