WORCESTER police are calling for members of the public to become Special Constables.
A recruitment drive is being organised by Special Constable Catherine Gowern Lock at Worcester Rugby Club today.
Special Constables are on duty for a minimum of four hours a week and their tasks include anything from breaking up fights, dealing with domestic incidents, road traffic collisions or helping regular officers.
They have the same powers of arrest as police officers and are allowed to drive certain police vehicles after a qualifying period.
Recruits must be aged 18 to 50, physically fit and of "good character".
"Currently we have 63 Special Constables throughout Worcester, Evesham, Pershore, Malvern, Upton, Droitwich and the surrounding areas, providing valuable assistance to the day-to-day work of police officers," said Insp Steve Brooker.
"Successful candidates have the same lawful powers as police constables and the support they provide cannot be underestimated."
Mike Robins, operations director for Worcester Rugby Club, said the club was glad to lend a hand in the recruitment drive.
"We are particularly pleased to be a part of this campaign since the police contribution on match days in invaluable and we have developed a close relationship," he said.
Special Constables will be available to chat about the job between 10am and 4pm at the CrownGate Shopping Centre in Worcester on Sunday June 16.
