NEW telephone consoles have been installed and more staff will be employed at Worcestershire Royal Hospital to reduce the amount of time callers are kept on hold.
Health bosses agreed to the changes, which will come into effect over the coming weeks, following a catalogue of complaints from disgruntled patients and visitors.
"It's often very difficult to get through on the telephone," Cathryn Plain, director of nursing, said at last week's Worcester District Community Health Council meeting.
CHC vice-chairman Pat Merrick said the problem was made worse because callers did not know the new extension numbers.
Mrs Merrick suggested advertising the new numbers in the Evening News and other local media.
Two new consoles have already been installed, and staff would be recruited, Mrs Plain said.
