A GROUP of up to 10 youths is suspected to have pushed a blue Ford Sierra into the Worcester- Birmingham Canal.
Kim Stain, Worcester police spokeswoman, said an eyewitness had come forward claiming to have seen a group of 10 youngsters, aged between 12 and 18, shoving the car into the water at around 8pm last Thursday.
Thirteen firefighters from Worcester's Blue Watch were called to the scene, under the viaduct near Westbury Street,
Lowesmoor, to search the water for any people trapped.
"We launched the inflatable boat and a firefighter in a dry suit carried out a search," said Alec Mackie, fire brigade spokesman.
No one was found and police contacted British Waterways, which said it would remove the vehicle.
"As far as we're aware, the car wasn't stolen," said Miss Stain.
