DOZENS of old Worcester schoolgirls have pledged their support for a reunion thanks to a plea in the Evening News.
Joy Reekie contacted the Evening News last month with details of the reunion she is organising for the class of '72 from Worcester Grammar School for Girls.
Since the article appeared, more than 30 former pupils have come forward, but Mrs Reekie fears many of their chums have left the city and now wants their parents to tell them about the event.
"A network is in place now, and word of mouth is doing really well," said Mrs Reekie, who now lives in Derby.
"We already have one old girl coming from Ethiopia, another from the US and one from Italy.
"It's going to be really good catching up."
The reunion is due to take place on Saturday, June 29, at The Berkeley Arms, Spetchley.
A 70s tribute band has been booked for the evening but they have not been able to trace all 150 girls in their year.
Former TV:AM presenter Anne Diamond is an old classmate of Mrs Reekie, ne Oakley.
"We've been in touch with her agent but we don't know if she's coming," said Mrs Reekie.
"We'd like to know if there's anyone else who is famous in our year."
Old girls are being asked to bring along old school photos to put on a display.
"We're looking for girls who left after their O-levels in 1970, lower sixth the following year, or upper sixth in 1972," said the 48-year-old primary school teacher.
"But those from the year below or the year above will also be welcome, and partners are invited."
Mrs Reekie can be contacted on 01332 281544.
