WORCESTER'S poor run of form in Birmingham League Division One continued on Saturday when they went down to a seven-wicket defeat at Kenilworth Wardens.
Worcester, for the second time in three weeks, lost the toss and found themselves put in on a wet wicket.
Despite good covering at the Glasshouse Park ground rain had seeped under the covers and dampened the wicket considerably and the outfield was also very boggy in many places.
This resulted in a delayed start and when a 40-over game got underway at 2.45pm.
The visitors found life very difficult. Only two batsmen got into double figures, Zimbabwean Taitendu Taibu made a very accomplished 60 in 114 minutes and vice captain Chris Smedley made 13 in total of 103-9.
The man to do the damage for the home was Simontia Kotak who took 4-17.
Worcester fought hard in the field when the home side batted, but under considerable pressure, dropped two vital catches.
Kenilworth's skipper David Barr made a fine 41 not out, and with Kotak weighing in with 29 his side got home in the 36th over to reach 104-3 and a comfortable win. Worcester took just one point from the match while Kenilworth bagged 20.
n At The Gordon Jones Memorial Ground, the seconds again showed their form with their third successive victory at home to Wednesbury.
Batting first, the visitors made a useful 143-8 in their 50 overs with Doug Mansell making a solid 57 not out, as off spinner Bryan Clarke claimed 3-15 in 10 accurate overs.
In reply, Worcester looked to be in trouble at 48-5 but skipper Roger Weston was joined by Julian Rickman and they steadied the ship with a partnership of 50 before Weston was dismissed for 15.
Rickman, however, held his nerve to compile a match winning total as Worcester reached 144-8 in the 42nd over. Worcester seconds notched 20 points to Wednesbury's four.
