THE controller of Hagley's WI Market has been elected to head the movement nationally.
Pat van Zyl is now national chairman of WI Country Markets Ltd, a company with an annual turnover of £11,000 from 500 local markets throughout England and Wales.
The markets sell freshly baked goods, craftwork, home-grown fruit, vegetables and plants directly to the public.
WI Country Markets is a non-profit making organisation, with profits returned to producers.
A market is held every Friday from 8.45am until 11am at Hagley Community Centre, in Worcester Road.
