A BOWLER making his debut and a 14 year old batsman caught the eye for Barnards Green on Saturday.
The 3rd XI travelled to Worcester at Norton Barracks but came away with a 49 run defeat. Worcester elected to bat on a track that showed a little variable bounce, however, Worcester made the most of some loose deliveries and a good deal of luck.
Skipper Tyrer struck the ball solidly in front of and just over the Green fielders before falling four short of his century, with Lee Dyment taking a good catch off young Rob Tyler.
Evans was later caught by the juggling Paul Knapper, making his Green debut, who became the pick of the Green bowlers with an excellent performance of 13 overs, six maidens, conceding just 40 runs. Worcester finished on 221 off their 45 overs.
In reply, the Green got off to a solid start through Bob Rogers (27) and Lee Dyment (14) but a sudden fall of wickets left the Green at 60-4. Robin Longmore then joined 14 year old Jonathon Lewis and the pair put on 75 runs before both fell in quick succession with Lewis finishing on a well-struck 26 and Longmore on 37.
Jamie Longmore (15) and Rob Tyler (13) did their best to keep the score board ticking over, but when Tyler ran himself out the game was as good as over.
