Evesham cyclists stand to benefit from the initiative of a town businessman.

Paul Turner, of Vale Cycles, in Port Street, is offering a free security postcoding service and cycle check for anyone cycling to work, school or college between next Monday, June 17, and Friday, June 21.

All he asks in return is for people to make donations, which will then be handed to Evesham Adventure Playground.

"My son was involved with it and it is something we have always supported," he said.

The service is available from 8am to 6pm and has been timed to coincide with National Bike Week, which runs from Saturday, June 15, to Sunday, June 23.

Wychavon District Council is urging people to use the week as an incentive to get on their bikes.

"As well as keeping you fit, cycling does not pollute the environment or cost much money - all you need is leg-power," said sustainability officer Cherrie Mansfield.

"I hope Bike Week will see lots of people leaving their cars in the garage - and you never know, they may end up staying there."
