BROMYARD racer Nick Adcock is setting his sights on success at Silverstone next weekend.

Adcock, 37, will be taking part in the fifth and sixth rounds of the Volkswagen Racing Cup, at the wheel of his Attinger Jack Advertising-backed Beetle RSi.

It's the first time that the championship has raced at the Northamptonshire circuit.

Adcock is hoping to return to the winner's rostrum at Silverstone. He won the season opener at Donington and finished third in round two; currently he holds second place overall in the championship.

Leading the title contenders to Silverstone is Steve Walker (Stockport), winner of three out of four races so far in his Golf VR6.

Former BTCC racer Ray MacDowall (Carlisle) is hoping to bounce back from the engine problems which beset his last outing in the ECM-backed Beetle and notch up his first Volkswagen Racing Cup victory.

Reigning champion Mich-ael Neuhoff, who lives near Silverstone, at Helmdon, is meanwhile hoping for a home-turf advantage as he bids to score a third successive top-three finish in the revolutionary Golf TDI.

"Silverstone should suit the turbodiesel," said Mike, "The Golf TDI improves with every test and power delivery is improving all the time. I think we can upset the petrol boys again next weekend."

The Volkswagen Racing Cup is supported by Volkswagen Racing UK, Dunlop, Superchips, Cambridge Business Travel, Sony, Mintex, Dread, Frazero, Electromotion, Recaro, OZ and Brian James Trailers.

Provisional positions: 1 Steve Walker (Golf VR6), 124 points; 2 Nick Adcock (Beetle RSi), 96; 3 Len Simpson (Vento VR6), 72; 4 Ray MacDowall (Beetle RSi), 56; 5 Ian Carvell (Golf GTI), 55; 6 Ian Fawcett (Vento VR6).
