BUSINESSES in the hair and beauty industry can benefit from a new publication produced by Customs & Excise.
Help for your Business in the Hair and Beauty Industry is designed to provide information and advice about the legal obligations of running a business.
It was launched last month at the Spring Salon, the Midlands' premier hair and beauty show, held at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre.
"Whether you run a hair dressing salon, tattoo parlour or a tanning centre the guide will provide useful basic information on running your own business," said a Customs & Excise spokesman.
"We want them to get things right from the moment they start in business, to prevent problems and difficulties further down the line."
The easy-to-read leaflet covers VAT, including how to register, what the VAT rate is and the different methods of paying.
Other chapters provide information about income tax, employing people, chair renting, health and safety, local by-laws and other regulations.
The leaflet, which was written in conjunction with industry people, also contains information on how to contact business support organisations such as the Small Business Service and National Hairdressers' Federation.
The leaflet - reference number URN02/902 - is available by phoning 0870 150 2500 or e-mail: publications@dti.gsi.gov.uk
