WORCESTER Triathlon member Les Bailey clinched bronze for Great Britain in the European Duathlon Championships.
Bailey, representing GB in the 65-69 age group, clocked two hours, 32 minutes and 20 seconds in the race held in Zeitz, Germany.
Bailey's efforts were all the more impressive considering how tough the race was. A cobbled surface around the streets of Zeitz for the first 10km run was followed by a hilly 42km bike, followed by a second 5km run.
More than 1,000 competitors took part from all over Europe and Bailey came away with yet another impressive display.
Meanwhile, Johnny Stephens clinched fourth at the Gloucester Sprint Triathlon.
The Worcester star, taking on a 400 metre swim, a 19km bike and a 5km run, clocked 57-12 out of a field of more than 200 competitors. It was a stunning result after a long injury lay-off.
Stephens caught the eye again at the East Grinstead event when he took on a 500 metre swim, a 28km bike ride and a 5km run. He finished in fifth from a field of 400.
n Maureen Burrows was the winner of the Worcester one-mile time trial over the Severn Stoke course. She stormed around in a time of 26-55 beating Evesham's Arja Scarsbrook.
n Kevin May finished 16th in the Huntingdon Sprint. The event featured a 600-metre open water swim, a 5km run and a 16-mile ride.
