A KIND-HEARTED Bromsgrove woman will host a charity event this week to pay tribute to her mother and grandmother who bravely fought but sadly lost their battle against cancer.
Town folk are urged to take part in the 'keep your eye on the ball' event, organised by 51-year-old, Karen Banner, proprietor of Pleck Stores, in Crabtree Lane, to raise buckets of cash for Cancer Research UK.
There will be a fun racketball doubles night at Images, in Worcester Road, at 7pm on Friday, June 14.
This will be followed by a sponsored children's racketball morning at 11.30am on Saturday, June 15.
The Crabtree Lane resident decided to offer her backing to the registered charity after both family members died from breast cancer in 2000.
This particular event coincides with testicular and prostate cancer awareness week, to encourage men to spot symptoms early to reduce the risk of cancer.
All the cash raised will provide valuable income to assist clinical trials currently being carried out in Birmingham.
Ten drugs have already been developed by Cancer Research UK which have benefited many patients in local hospitals.
Cash raised will help scientists discover new drugs and treatments to cure and control cancer.
Karen said: "I originally planned a one off event but the organisation asked if I wanted to hold another to raise awareness of testicular cancer."
She wants people to run their own events by contacting her on 01527 579486.
