YOUNG riders from Bromsgrove Olympique Cycling Club were on top form last Saturday as they claimed two gold medals in an excellent display at the British Schools Cycling Association mountain bike National Championships in Lincoln.
Olympique claimed six of the 32 gongs available, including gold medals for Alex and Francine Billington.
Alex Billington won his medal in the U16s race, dominated by himself and club mate Matt Lee.
Despite early high speed riding by cyclists from Milton Keynes and Lincoln a short, steep climb saw Lee pass the leaders to open a 20-metre gap.
Alex also took the opportunity to attack and in half a lap had caught up. Lee continued to lead the race with Alex hanging on.
The pair had gained more than two minutes on the chasing pack by the last lap but it was Alex who came through on the final sprint.
Francine Billington, riding in the over 16s, had problems with her bike, leaving her with a gashed knee. But a quick change of bikes soon had her back in action to take her gold medal.
Elsewhere, Jason Dingley added a silver medal to his collection in the U8 boys while Peter Banham and Ross Dingley secured silver and bronze respectively in the U14s.
In the U12 girls, Genevieve Billington finished just out of the medal positions in fourth place an Redditch youngster Lauren Carbutt took silver in the U10 girls.
This weekend the youth team competes in circuit races at Wolverhampton while Craig Talbot, Jason Dingley and Genny Billington contest the Raleigh Challenge final in Nottingham.
