PLANS to celebrate next year's Coronation were being drawn up by the district council. Bromsgrove had a good reputation for celebrating royal events in style. In 1937 the town was picked out by the BBC and many private commentators as being one of the three best decorated places in the Midlands.
THE hitherto unexplained weekly Sunday morning water shortage at Broom Hill had been put down to the fact that many people did their washing at that time. The three inch main pipe which served the whole of Belbroughton and which had been laid 30 years ago, was now inadequate to meet modern householders' needs.
FOOT and Mouth Disease meant there were no cattle, sheep or pig entries at the Three Counties Show held at Hindlip near Worcester. But among local winners in the dog section had been Mrs Harris, of Dodford, Miss Riley, of Wadderton House, Greenhill, and Mrs I Green, of Blackwell.
CHARFORD residents would soon be growing their own fruit and vegetables on allotments to be set out near Salwarpe Road. The land would be ploughed and divided into 300sq yd plots and offered to tenants at 10/- (50p) a year.
