OAKENSHAW'S Enzo Mucci achieved his best ever result in round four of the Renault Clio Cup over the Jubilee weekend - but the event was overshadowed by his team-mate's major shunt.
A tyre blow-out meant Mucci's qualifying round did not go to plan and he finished in 20th position for Sunday's race and 16th for the main race on Monday.
Sunday's race saw Mucci start well but he was slammed against a kerb which affected the steering and speed and he finished 16th to earn four championship points.
On Monday, he made another good start, gaining a place into the first corner.
He worked his way up to 9th place before the safety car came out due to a crash on the circuit.
Enzo's team-mate, Spencer Griffiths, the current Porsche champ, had been involved in a major shunt, his car having rolled over five times, and he was trapped in the car unconscious.
After six laps, the pace car left and racing resumed.
Mucci battled well into 7th place and on the last but one lap managed to get into 6th position.
Despite problems with the tyres, he managed to hold off the car behind and took the chequered flag in 6th place.
Enzo said: "The main race on Monday was one of mixed emotions, with Spencer's huge shunt and with scoring our best ever result - it's hard to know how to feel.
"We've heard Spencer has a hairline crack in his vertebrae but still says he can't wait to get back in the car."
