A FIGHTING fit mother and daughter from Worcester have donned their trainers to raise awareness for Cancer Research UK.
Hotel receptionist Maria Harrison and her daughter Genna, aged 8, will take to the city's streets this Sunday in the charity's Race for Life initiative.
The two, from Greenford Gardens in St John's, will be joining 220,000 fund- raisers in 100 events across the UK in a bid to raise £12m for cancer research.
And staff and locals at Ye Olde Talbot Hotel, in Friar Street, where Mrs Harrison works, are helping out with sponsorship to back their fund- raising effort for the 5km race.
"I decided to get involved when a friend and her daughter signed up for the event," said Mrs Harrison.
"There are three mothers and daughters running in our group. I'm very proud that Genna decided to run with me. It is a fun day but it also makes every generation aware of the problem."
Martin Gormley, manager of Ye Olde Talbot, said he was pleased to offer his support. "We'll donate 10 per cent of every pint, drink or meal," he said.
The circular route on Sunday, June 16 begins at 11am in Copenhagen Street and finishes of at the Guildhall.
