NEW action to tackle flooding in Stourport at a cost of £425,000 has been launched by Severn Trent Water.
Five homes - three in Lichfield Street, one in Mart Lane and one in Severn Side - which have all been flooded in the past will benefit from sewer work which started on Monday.
The scheme, which is part of a five-year programme, is due to be completed by October and Lichfield Road will be closed and diversions put in place while the work is carried out.
As part of the programme, a large storage tank designed to help the system cope with storm conditions will be installed, together with larger and additional piping.
Larry Barnes, network field services manager with Severn Trent Water, said: "Heavy storms are becoming more frequent which can mean an increase in flooding.
"This scheme will help to reduce the problems of overflowing sewers which have caused flooding to homes and gardens."
