HORSERACING: A Wyre Forest jockey brought the biggest cheer at Chaddesley Corbett's point-to-point with a success in his first season of competitive riding.
Kidderminster's Phillip Needham, 37, took Percy Medlicott to victory in the opening members' race only weeks after recovering from a dislocated collar bone.
The owners, Needham's wife Helen and father-in-law Jim Callow, have enjoyed fine success with Forest Fountain and Philtre in recent years.
But this victory gave them particular satisfaction after the partnership took advantage of a fall for the fancied Hoodwinker.
Phillip said: "I've had a couple of seconds, fourths, fifths, sixths and a few have pulled up.
"So this was a very good result, especially as only a month ago I dislocated my collar bone and managed to get fit two weeks later.
"We were travelling alongside Hoodwinker who made a complete mess of the fence but we just went over it."
Percy Medlicott held off a strong challenge from Military Man, putting in a great leap at the last fence to secure victory.
Meanwhile, Kidderminster rider Michael Keel maintained his challenge for the national novice riders title with a win in Maiden Division One.
