SWIMMING: Two Wyre Forest teams claimed runner-up spots in competitions at Leamington Spa and Cwmbran.

Swimmers aged from 10 upwards, apart from those with Midland district qualifying times, competed in the Mercian League round two at Leamington.

Meanwhile, Forest's B and C team swimmers from nine to 12 did well in the final round of the Ross Junior League in Wales.

The Mercian League was hotly contested with the final placing not decided until the final men's freestyle relay race.

Forest finished joint second with hosts Leamington but ended up higher in the league due to a better points total.

They achieved 16 first places, five seconds and 12 thirds out of 50 races.

The Ross Diddy League awards speeding tickets to swimmers who are too fast for their grade and Chris Wildgust gained one in the 13-year-old boys' 50m freestyle.

The nine-year-old boys won all their races and Forest tallied 12 league points out of a possible 16 in their four rounds, guaranteeing them a place in the finals at the end of June.

On the day, Forest were celebrating 17 first places and 18 seconds out of 57 races.
