IT was an especially memorable jubilee for Churchill pensioner Joan Rand as she watched her grandson escort the Queen's golden state coach through London.
Alex Mattinson, 26, who served with Her Majesty's Life Guards for five years, has been groom to the Queen for three years.
And his duties during the recent celebrations included not only preparing her coach and horses, but helping escort the coach from Buckingham Palace to St Paul's Cathedral.
Proud stepdad Group Captain Ron Davies, who lives in Wolverley with Alex's mother, Jennifer Davies, said seeing the coach was a lifetime's ambition for Alex's grandmother, 79.
