A DECISION to take an improving Kidderminster school out of special measures seven months early has been hailed by its headteacher as "fantastic" news.
Sladen Middle School, Hurcott Road, has been given the all-clear following a visit by Government inspectors last month.
A school in special measures is under threat of closure within two years if it does not improve and is visited every term by inspectors.
But the headteacher, staff and pupils were praised for the school's "rapid and significant exit from special measures".
Inspectors found pupils' attendance and attainment improving and the quality of teaching and pupils' attitudes to be satisfactory or good in 95 per cent of lessons.
Tom Revell, who joined the struggling school last September and was confirmed as permanent headteacher in January, said: "That the school has been removed from special measures is good but to be taken out seven months early is fantastic."
