SAILING was fast and furious for Evesham club members last weekend with a strong blustery wind from the south east and heavy rain at times on Sunday.
Most crews ended up in the river at some time but all capsizes were quickly righted.
Mike Long was soon out in front in the first race that was to be over 72 minutes in length and for a short while it appeared that he had got away.
However, Ian Edwards was relishing the conditions and, following a few adjustments to his rig, he caught up and took the lead.
Despite the best efforts of his rivals, he wasn't to be caught and continually pulled away to cross the line first.
The second race saw a more blustery wind but the rain was replaced by a clear blue sky.
It was John Pickford and Edwards again who fought for first place over a much shorter event, while the challengers were forced to settle for the role of also rans as they could only watch from the rear.
It was Pickford who led at the finish with Edwards close behind but all competitors had enjoyed the fast conditions.
