A NUMBER of residents from the Bowling Green/Sparrowhall Lane area attended the parish council planning meeting last Wednesday evening in Callow End Village Hall to voice their concerns over the proposed outline planning application for the plot of land and existing dwelling of 21 Bowling Green Road. Concerns were expressed over the number of proposed dwellings, the inadequacy of the present water pressure and drainage and over the nature of the access in terms of a country lane which may suffer environmentally and on a safety point with more increase in traffic levels. Chairman of the planning committee John Mason urged parishioners to write to the Malvern Hills District Council planning department with objections.

In spite of uninspiring weather, villagers marked the Queen's Golden Jubilee on Powick Playing Fields with a do-it-yourself picnic. An impromptu cricket match and rounders match were held plus a game of tug-o-war with mixed ages. Two sessions of parachute games were held when all ages joined in, adults were relieved to find that this did not involve jumping from the air!
Members of the choirs from St Peter's, Powick and Guarlford and Madresfield joined the singers and congregations from the many churches of the Malvern Churches Together for an ecumenical service to celebrate the Golden Jubilee at Great Malvern Priory on June 2.
