THE festivities in the village on June 3 to mark the Golden Jubilee were very successful despite the heavy rain. Nobody let this dampen their fun and games and other traditional events continued under cover. There were races, tug of war, cakes galore, a great barbecue and a sing-song and the evening ended with a disco and fireworks. Each child was given a Wellington Heath Jubilee mug and everyone went home happy.

Congratulations are due to Ann Lowe who organised the day and her band of helpers and Brendan and Michelle Watkins, of the Farmers Arms, contributed to the pleasure of the day with their generosity. Jubilee mugs are still available from the Farmers Arms at £3.

The Memorial Hall AGM took place on June 10, the first since its re-opening last autumn. The treasurer reported a good year financially and the hall is paying its way well at present. The programme of events has been very varied and the bookings are continuing well. Neville Shorrick was re-elected as chairman and all the members of the committee agreed to stand for another year, except of Norman Rose. Norman has retired form an active role on the hall committee which has spanned many years though no doubt his experience and knowledge will be called upon in the future. The chairman thanked him and members gave a round of applause.
