OVER the Jubilee Weekend 85 parents, players and siblings representing Newtown Sports (Junior) Football Club travelled to just outside Great Yarmouth to play in the Norfolk Cup football tournament.
Four teams were represented; three at the U11 age group and one U12 team. Staying at the Pontins Holiday resort, the teams travelled to North Walsham to play in round-robin tournaments over the Saturday and Sunday.
Each U11 team played eight 7-a-side mini-soccer games, with each side sharing mixed results. The U12s played in an 11-a-side tournament and were beaten for the first time in two years, but were still unlucky not to go through to the final.
On the Sunday evening, each player received a medal for taking part in the competition, which was presented by ex-England footballer Gary Mabbutt.
In addition, the U12s can be very proud of winning the Fair Play Award. Everyone enjoyed the well-organised tournament, the wonderful sunshine and the camaraderie that these trips encourage.
Newtown Sports Football Club would like to thank Commandery Coaches for their assistance, Npower for donation of a colour TV raffle prize and optics manufactures Kylmar Ltd for their financial support.
