TALKS are continuing over the possible relocation of Malvern's postal sorting office from Abbey Road to a "more suitable site".
Malvern Hills District Council has been in discussion with Consignia as it attempts to free up the prime town centre location for redevelopment into retail and eating space.
The authority says it hopes to "get things moving" as early as next month.
Sarah Gordon, MHDC economic development officer, said: "They are still looking for alternative premises for the sorting office and are looking for the right type of premises, something modern more than anything else. They are still seeing plenty of interest in their present site.
"We are hoping to have things moving in July. There will be some difficult issues to overcome."
Built in 1935, the post office, sorting office and Great Malvern Club stand on the site of Malvern's old parish church, St Thomas the Martyr.
If relocated, the large space vacated by the sorting office could create opportunities for desirable shopping areas and enhance the town centre profile.
