WORCESTER Nomads 2nd XI were victorious in remarkable circumstances against Oldswinford in their WCL fixture last weekend.
OLDSWINFORD II v WORCESTER NOMADS II
On another damp wicket, and having won the toss, Nomads crucially inserted the home side. With the wicket helpful to the bowlers, Oldswinford were dismissed for only 78 runs, in 46 overs, but what made this remarkable was that all 10 wickets fell to catches.
Nomads hung on to every single chance offered with the exception of one difficult opportunity falling to wicket-keeper Kelly, who did all but complete the dismissal. Only Griffiths (23) and Walker (14no) made double figures and offered any sort of resilience. Wickets were shared around, with Andy Brown looking hostile, taking 4-25, and father and son Lee and Steve Wilks taking three and two respectively.
Nomads response was to attack where possible, and were helped to a flier by Chris Marsh, making 21 in quick time. Dave Finbow then steered the side to victory, putting the bad ball away, on his way to 35, as Nomads won by eight wickets.
WORCESTER NOMADS III v OMBERSLEY III
NOMADS Thirds had the better of the game against a young Ombersley side but couldn't quite complete a win by taking the last Ombersley wicket, who hung on at 82-9 chasing 166.
Nomads batted first, and the innings was built around an excellent 58 by vice captain Alex Isaacs. Batting was always difficult on a slow and seaming wicket, but Isaacs received good support from Stefan Rees (17), Iain Brown (17) and Paul Evans, making his debut, (17). Tom Drew took 3-28.
Nomads' bowlers never allowed the batsmen to settle, with Andrews (2-11) in particularly good form. Nigel Rees (3-32), James Smith (2-1 from three overs) and Stefan Rees (1-4) were also amongst the wickets but the last pair held out with a winning draw to Nomads the final result.
