A play based on the 1951 Oscar-winning Ealing comedy The Lavender Hill Mob is being brought to The Everyman theatre in Cheltenham next week.
The chaotic and fast-paced production stars veteran actors Victor Spinetti and Clive Francis, as well as Eastenders' Eddie Royle, Michael Melia and Jack Wild (the Artful Dodger in the film Oliver!).
The play follows an unassuming and long-suffering bank worker who enlists the help of his friend, Pendlebury, a souvenir manufacturer and amateur sculptor, to reward himself for two years of faithful service by stealing £1 million in gold.
A couple of cockney crooks then help the pair to stage their heist and melt the gold into miniature Eiffel Towers for transport abroad. When the souvenirs are mistakenly sold to a group of English schoolgirls, chaos ensues.
The Lavender Hill Mob runs from Tuesday (June 18) to June 22. Tickets are £7-£17.50, from 01242 572573.
