A WORCESTER drunk was arrested after hurling abuse at students who had been throwing bricks at him.
Drinker Samuel Wilson was arrested in the grounds of Worcester College of Technology on Thursday, June 13, after being reported by a member of staff, Worcester magistrates heard yesterday.
Mark Soper, prosecuting, told the court officers were called to the college early in the morning.
"Officers went to the rear of the college where Wilson was with a friend," he said.
"He was being abusive towards members of staff as well as the officers who came to the scene."
Wilson, of Liverpool Road, Ronkswood, admitted one charge of being drunk and disorderly and one Bail Act offence.
Nick Roberts, defending, said the 42-year-old had significant "alcohol difficulties", but had been provoked by students.
"Some youths started to throw bricks at him and his friend," he said.
"He became irate and started swearing, but it was directed at the youths, not college staff.
"He accepts he was drunk and disorderly."
District Judge Philip Browning fined Wilson £100, but waived the charge, ordering him to spend a day in prison instead.
