DANCING and afternoon tea will be on the menu at a special midsummer event.

A President's Midsummer Special is being organised by Councillor Betty Hughes at Pershore College of Horticulture on Sunday, June 30.

Proceeds will go to the local branches of the Royal National Lifeboat Institute, Angling for the Disabled and the ME Support Group Worcestershire.

"I've called it a presidential ball because I'm president of St John Ambulance and the president of ME Support Group Worcestershire," said Coun Hughes. "It's going to be a lovely day."

The event includes a tour of the college grounds and garden centre, afternoon tea in the college, followed by entertainment in the Frank Parkinson Theatre by the St Andrew's Pipers and Highland Dancers of Cheltenham.

There will also be a film and presentation about lifeboats by James Bradbury, senior area organiser for the RNLI, and a talk by Derek North, National Federation of Anglers coach and member of the Professional Anglers' Association.

The tour takes place at 2.10pm, tea at 4.30pm and the concert at 6.15pm. Tickets cost £11, tea or concert only £6. For tickets or further information contact Coun Hughes on 01386 552547.
