BEING a Worcester man, over the last 50 years, I have passed by Worcester Cathedral many times. But each time it leaves me perplexed.
The reason for this is the statue depicting the angel protecting the soldier with his bayonet fixed, ready to go into battle.
Don't get me wrong, I have no disrespect for the heroes of that war who died for their country, but if you take the reason for its commission away and let the piece stand alone by itself, it demonstrates the futility of Mankind's thinking.
Religion is the most common cause of aggression. At worst it's a moral and religious contradiction.
PETER MOUNTFORD,
Worcester.
