MRS M J Large accuses me of producing ''twisted facts'' and then admits to not reading the Burns report into hunting. It seems quite extraordinary to accuse me of twisting anything before she has studied the latest independent and probably most definitive work on the subject of hunting.

It may prove useful for Mrs Large to learn more about the facts before further accusations or continuing our lengthy debate.

With reference to her questions about hunting, in very simple terms the hunt followers, mounted or on foot, finance the hounds, kennels and professional huntsman.

They are guests of the farmers who have invited the hunt to cull and disperse the foxes on their land.

Followers of the hunt support a service to the farmer, in return they can enjoy watching the hounds work and have access to the countryside. The numbers and size of horses make no difference to what happens.

Regarding coursing, it has never been a secret that at a few meetings, a licensed bookmaker may be present. As a matter of interest, Mrs Large should note the latest announcement about coursing from the Government has admitted that any future legislation to regulate hunting will not include coursing as it may be impossible to safeguard ordinary dog owners from prosecution.
