LOVERS of brass band music can look forward to a treat this summer as the city council presents a packed programme of live music in its parks.
The bands will be playing Cripplegate Park and Gheluvelt Park in a series of free concerts for visitors of all ages.
The performances have been organised by Worcester City Council with the help of Derek Bruce Entertainments and include some of the Midlands' best bands, including the West Mercia Police Band and Worcester Concert Brass.
Ian Yates, parks and cemeteries manager at the city council, said he believed the magnificent fountain at Cripplegate Park and the period bandstand in Gheluvelt Park, surrounded by summer bedding plants, provided the perfect setting for the summer concerts.
"With a blend of modern and traditional music, Bands in the Park is set for another successful summer," he said.
"Last year, the bigger bands attracted several hundred people. It's an ideal way to spend a summer's afternoon."
The summer concerts start on Sunday, June 23, with the Band of the West Mercia Constabulary playing Gheluvelt park, in Barbourne Road.
- On Sunday, July 7, Gloucester Excelsior will play Cripplegate Park, in New Road/Hylton Road.
- Sunday, July 21, Malvern Hills and District Brass Band plays Gheluvelt Park.
- Sunday, August 4, Shirley Band plays Cripplegate Park.
- Sunday, August 18, Worcester Concert Brass plays Gheluvelt Park.
