WORCESTERSHIRE hope to have Stuart Lampitt off the casualty list in time for tomorrow's Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy fourth round clash against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

The long-serving paceman has been sidelined recently with a calf strain and will have a fitness test before the scheduled start of play at 10.45am.

The County's Director of Cricket Tom Moody believes Lampitt, who is performing as a one-day specialist this season, has a 'strong chance' of being of being available.

Lampitt is named in the squad which includes the 11 who played in Sunday's 121-run Norwich Union League win over Durham.

Paceman Duncan Catterall, who was 12th man at the Riverside, is also in the squad for tomorrow when the County will be aiming to improve on their recent record in the competition which they won in 1994.

Since then, however, they have beaten just one first-class county in the Trophy. That was in 1996 when they overcame Glamorgan by 43 runs at Cardiff when Moody cracked a splendid 123.

Notts, who beat Ireland by eight wickets in Dublin in the previous round, will be without Darren Bicknell who is out for six weeks with a broken thumb.

Trent Bridge Cricket Operations Manager Mick Newell said: "Worcestershire are a good one-day side having reached the Benson and Hedges Cup semi-finals, but we believe we can beat them."

Meanwhile, County batsman Stephen Peters is preparing to return to action after being out for a month with a broken thumb which he sustained in a Championship match against his former club Essex at New Road.

He is being pencilled in to play for the second team next week while paceman Chris Liptrot continues his battle to recover from a slipped disc.
