AN angry dad says his wife and baby could have been killed in a "sick" vendetta he fears is sweeping a quiet Worcestershire village.

Moments before Antoinette Tarrach set off for work in Birmingham from her Callow End home, her husband Keith spotted four three-inch nails embedded in one of the tyres.

Eight-month-old Freya was already in the car, ready for the 100-mile round trip.

At first, Mr Tarrach thought the nails, which he found last week, were a one-off.

But, after chatting to a neighbour in Beauchamp Lane and reading last Thursday's Evening News, the 30-year-old, of Upton Road, fears the whole village could have become the target of a "sick" vendetta.

"My wife was just about to set up off the main road and I noticed one of the rear tyres was flat," said Mr Tarrach.

"She travels up to Birmingham every day.

"It's a good job we discovered the nails when we did.

"If we hadn't, she could have easily lost control of the car. I hate to think what could have happened on the motorway."

Mr Tarrach fears, because of the number of nails, they were planted deliberately.

His complaint follows several from the residents of Beauchamp Lane, who told the parish council they had found 32 embedded in the tyres of their cars, vans and farm vehicles.

They claimed the nails were being planted along a grass verge, built to slow traffic on a bend.

"After this, and seeing the Evening News article, I think there must be either some sick adults or children in the village who don't realise the danger of their antics," Mr Tarrach said.

"It cost us £50 to get the tyre changed, but that's incidental to the cost it would have caused to our lives if we'd had an accident."
