WORCESTER people are being invited to turn over a new leaf and recycle their old phone books.
New telephone directories are already being delivered to homes across Worcester, and the city council's environmental protection team is urging residents to go green and post their out-of-date books in paper banks.
The banks are already in place at Leo's supermarket, on Ombersley Road, Perdiswell Park, off Droitwich Road, the council's household waste sites in Bilford Road and Horsford Road and Tesco in Warndon and St Peter's.
Additional sites are County Hall in Spetchley, St John's Sports Centre, Gresham Road in Dines Green, Homebase on Hylton Road and Newport Street and Pitchcroft car park.
The council's plea follows its successful Yellow Pages campaign earlier this year, when seven tons of the directories were recycled.
"This is an ideal opportunity to 'slim your bin' and put old directories to good use," said Hannah Phoenix, assistant environmental protection officer at Worcester City Council.
"There are around 40,000 households in the city. Add on to this all the business premises and we can really begin to reduce the weight of rubbish heading to landfill."
A display of posters from the Rubbish? Sort It! Campaign, backed by the Evening News, is currently on show in The Guildhall.
