WIXFORD Angling Club fished its opening match of the river season for the J Watton Cup on Club waters on the River Arrow at Ragley.
Running water specialist Alan Bradshaw got the perfect start by winning with an impressive 17lb 1oz of chub.
He fished the pole at 12 metres, using caster and hemp from a peg on the 40-acre.
Van Casey was second with two good barbel and bits for 10lb 12oz and Colin Avery fished stick float and caster to take chub and dace for third place with 7lb 9oz.
Section winners were Kevin Cotton and Graham Rowe.
l FORTY Needle Industries Angling Club members fished the first L M Haines match on Club waters at Great Alne.
Getting his season off to a flying start was new member Bruce Storey-Day, taking first place with a mainly chub catch of 8lb 13oz taken off peg 12 using pole fished caster.
Second was committee member Dave Bryan with 7lb 12oz off peg 30, again chub with pole fished caster.
