THE recent successes enjoyed by Worcester Swimming Club continued in great style when the juniors emphatically booked their place in the Nuneaton Junior League final as the only unbeaten team.
Already top of the league, courtesy of two previous victories, the squad were expecting a much tighter gala as the main opposition in the six-team gala came from the Camp Hill club, who were placed second in the league.
But they were blown away by the awesome power of the Worcester team as victory followed victory.
The evening began with a win courtesy of Samantha Payne and this was followed up by other individual first places by Payne (again), Mathew Everest (2), Rachel Harrison, Victoria Wassell (2), Tom Watts, and Jade Baker.
The real strength of the team was illustrated in the relay races.
The nine-year-old teams tasted victory for the first time, courtesy of Issac Page Long, Rupert Monkhouse, Jack Hundley and Matthew Turner, while the girls did likewise, thanks to Joanne Cowie, Danielle Harrison, Laura Smith and Jennifer Rollins.
In the 10-years age group, the relay victories arrived due to the hard work of Alex Bastable, James Hallam, Jack Ellis, Adam Whitaker, Oliver Davey, Laurence Edwards, Laura Maguire, Lydia Williams, Rebecca McGreevy, and Sammy Payne.
Not wanting to miss out on the first places, the 11-year olds completed a whitewash of wins in their relays due to a number of great swims from Josh Rollins, Rhys Davey, Daniel Thompson, Tom Watts, Grant Hundley, Emily Burton, Katherine Rollins, Victoria Pomeroy, Jade Baker, and Elaina Williams.
The 12-year-old team also illustrated their ability to be the best in the relays courtesy of Bringsty Edwards, Gabrielle Allen, Rachel Harrison, Tara Jury, Alicia Bayliss, Alex Pritchard, Nathan Glanville, Rudy Hercik, Alex Williams, Matthew Everest and Adam Wills.
A number of these swimmers then combined to win both the girls and boys canon relays, before the team rounded off the successful evening with another first place in the mixed canon relay.
The final result saw Worcester home in first place by 54 points from nearest rivals Camp Hill, having won 23 of the 43 races.
This sees the team through into the final in September where they must be seen as favourites to gain promotion to Division One.
The coaching staff at Worcester are proud of the achievements made by the swimmers.
Should anyone wish to enquire about swimming with Worcester, the club are always looking to recruit new swimmers.
