GREEN FINGERED youngster Oliver Wheway will enjoy a day to remember on Saturday when he is a VIP guest at the BBC Gardeners' Live show at the NEC in Birmingham.
Eight-year-old Oliver, a pupil at Fairfield First School, and his family will be chauffeured to and from the popular show from their home in Stourbridge Road in a stretched limo.
They will also be treated to a slap up lunch courtesy of Webbs of Wychbold garden centre.
Oliver won the prize trip after his entry in the regional finals of the National Petunia Frenzy Competition, held at Webbs on Saturday, was voted the overall winner.
On Saturday his plant will be judged against other finalists from all over Britain. The winner will win major prizes for their school and themselves.
Pupils from eight schools across the region had lovingly grown the plants from seedlings for the past two months.
There was a fantastic response to the competition, with over 150 plants on show despite the event clashing with the England v Denmark football mach.
Judge, Advertiser/Messenger chief reporter Pete Lammas, who gave the winners engraved gardening trowels and Webbs vouchers, said it had been a difficult task choosing the best blooms.
