A NEW bus shelter is up for a prestigious architectural award from the Bromsgrove Society.

The shelter in Blackwell is up against other new designs, conversions and modernisations being considered for the first award in four years.

Among them are entries from North Bromsgrove High School, two from Bromsgrove School, Oak Apple Court in Catshill and Townsends Vets.

The panel of four judges has been to see all the entries and has made its decision, which will be announced on July 4 at Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings.

"I am really delighted we have received so many entries," said society chairman Tim Harris. "It has shown Bromsgrove people really care about their environment and buildings."

The award was created in 1982 but vice-chairman Des Clarke said it had not been given out since 1998 due to a lack of entries and judges.

The other entries are Holywell School in Rubery; Hortons in Bromsgrove; Banham House, Stoke Prior; Barnsley Hall; Barnsley Court; St Andrew's Church in Barnt Green and a conversion in Brockhill.
