A CARING councillor has donned his shades to help publicise the good work of the Guide Dogs for the Blind charity.

Bromsgrove District Council chairman David Hancox (Con - Uffdown and Waseley) will support the charity's second national Shades for a Day campaign to be held in July.

"I'm delighted to be supporting this very worthwhile campaign," he said.

"One of my chosen charities for my year in office is the Talking Newspaper for the Blind.

"The special day will help raise money for the guide dogs and highlight the importance of eye care in the sun."

The charity is advising everyone to look out for the CE mark when buying sunglasses, the best indicator of protection from harmful ultra violet light.

Chief executive of Guide Dogs for the Blind Geraldine Peacock said: "Too often we ignore our most precious sense - that of sight.

"We are committed to both funding vital ophthalmic research and promoting eye care awareness and we're really grateful to Cllr Hancox for supporting our campaign," she added.
