PERHAPS the Rev D G Griffin is finding some of the facts about his profession rather hard to absorb.

His letter (You Say, June 7) demonstrates further the original teachings of Jesus, which are faultless, but have been distorted by some for their own gains.

The church industry has come up with priests, higher priests, bishops, grand buildings and treasuries worth billions, endless divisions and sub-divisions.

Each has his own version of the so-called "Word of God," the Bible, of which there are now hundreds of variations and editions.

Is/was the Bible really in God's words? Even so, where are/were God's command for all this? And what has been done in God's name?

Not much, and lot for the worse. At best, the church was a case of the misled trying to lead the easily-led.

At worse it was/is full of power mongers trying to impose totalitarianism.

When these decline, maybe the real teachings of Jesus and humanity will gain.

M ROBERTS,

Worcester.
