ANOTHER planning application for the new Matchborough First School was due to be discussed yesterday.
Outline planning consent to build the school on the playing fields of the former Moatfield Middle School was granted in January but details of the access, siting, design, external appearance and landscaping were reserved for further approval.
A county council spokesman said the new school, an amalgamation of Icknield and Claybrook first schools, would be a single storey L-shaped building with 12 classrooms in one arm and the shorter arm containing central facilities, hall, reception class and nursery.
The spokesman added: "The submitted details include hard play areas and pitch layout and a separate fenced play area for the nursery.
"An 18-space car park, accessed from Matchborough Way, is proposed which would incorporate a coach turning and dropping off facility.
"A new footpath on the eastern side of Matchborough Way would link the school to the existing underpass under Matchborough Way to the south and the Matchborough Centre to the north.
"A zebra crossing over Matchborough Way would link to a widened footpath on its western side."
Other details include a back service entrance to the school from Easenhall Drive to provide access for kitchen deliveries and refuse vehicles.
The application was recommended for approval subject to conditions.
