BUDDING young rock stars in Droitwich Spa are being urged to show off their talent at a concert in the town.

The gig, which is being supported by Wychavon District Council and West Midland Arts, is set to take place on July 19 at Droitwich Leisure Centre, in Briar Mill.

However stars of the future need to get their instruments at the ready because the auditions for the live event are this weekend.

Being held in the front gym at Droitwich Spa High School, also in Briar Mill, the session will take place this Saturday, June 22, and will begin at midday and finish at around 5pm.

Musicians aged 14 to 21 are welcome to go along and are asked to take their instruments and performance music with them - drummers are asked to contact Louise on the number below in advance.

Before the extravaganza in July, the stars of tomorrow will be given free music workshops and rehearsals by Juggernaut, a leading arts organisation, to ensure the live performance will rock the night away.

Wychavon's arts development officer, Louise Fenton, said: "We tried something similar in Evesham and it turned out to be a brilliant success.

"There is so much musical talent in Wychavon and this event will bring it out into the public eye.

"This is a really exciting opportunity for young bands to work with professionals in the industry, to develop their skills and then perform live in July.

"Some will never have performed live before so what a challenge."
