DROITWICH Spa CC First XI could be facing relegation to Worcestershire County League division two if their losing trend continues.
Spa lost again last Saturday. This time it was a six-wicket loss at Bromyard, a carbon copy of their margin of defeat the week before at home to lowly Hagley.
Try as they did, half centuries from the captain (57) and Brent Hawkins (53) were not enough to save Spa from defeat.
Droitwich again batted first and set about the task well in the early overs.
Paul Bryan and Aussie Hawkins compiled runs comfortably in the first 11 overs until Bryan (18) played the ball on to his stumps.
This brought Duggan to the crease and he and Hawkins continued the good work and batted with assurance to their half centuries.
Droitwich seemed to be coasting on 122-1 but once Duggan and Hawkins had been removed, the lower order collapsed with Spa losing their last nine wickets for a total of just 85 runs.
On a relatively small pitch, Droitwich were looking to post a total in excess of 230 but the lower order seemed to surrender under the pressure and finally ended on 207-8.
In reply, Bromyard were aggressive from the first delivery with opener Ashley Bullock taking apart virtually all of the Droitwich bowlers.
Bullock scored a magnificent 107 before the only quality bowler of the day, Adrian Field, claimed his wicket.
The rest of the Bromyard players were indifferent and finally scraped home with a couple of overs to spare.
This Saturday sees the visit of Luctonians to St Peter's Field with Jerome Connor, a new signing from Bromsgrove, available for selection along with Mike Gunston.
