DEAR EDITOR - I read with astonishment the letter from councillor J. Tidmarsh "Improving Quality". It should have been "Deterioration of Quality".
He mentions Agenda 21 and the part we can all play in improving the quality of life for all.
He forgets to mention he did his utmost to see that Bromsgrove never even got the chance or opportunity to play its part. Refusing to even consider that when it came to purchasing new vehicles that those vehicles should run on LPG or any other alternative fuel that does not pollute the atmosphere.
He mentions he had to deal with 'Air Quality Management', yet he refused to act or attempt to act to improve the air quality in Bromsgrove, refusing to set up a 'Carcinogenic Avoidance Committee'; after the 'Air Quality Report' identified three areas in the District as having pollution levels above the recommended amount: Wildmoor Lane/Catshill, Coopers Hill and Lickey End.
Local residents should have rightly been informed and action taken.
He even dismissed information disclosed by the Friends Of The Earth web-site that demonstrated clearly that in regards to six substances Polymerlatex Ltd has breached the Release Threshold.
He refused to review the new procedures introduced by the council, that after a holiday a great number of residents are left without their rubbish being collected for at least two weeks.
This creates a health and safety problem to many, especially the elderly, who cannot get to the tip. He introduced a £10 charge for the collection of waste from a manageable £3.25. Once again creating problems to those on low incomes and encouraging fly-tipping.
His concern for the environment and the health of the residents can be truly demonstrated by his refusal to ever disclose the reports into the two terrible incidents at the Dolphin centre, to the public or even councillors.
Councillor Peter McDonald,
Lab - Uffdown and Waseley,
Bromsgrove District Council.
