COOKLEY put on one of their best displays of the season to end Stourport's winning run in Saturday League Division Two.

The derby match saw Cookley completely outplay their high-flying local rivals at home only for the town side to salvage a losing draw.

Cookley openers Phil Dixon (43) and Paul Harris were in control from the start, enjoying an opening stand of 98.

Harris went on to make an impressive 76 and solid batting from New Zealander John Blakeley (52) with others chipping in saw the villagers post a formidable 246-7 from 50 overs.

Ian Delo bowled a marathon spell of 16 overs and was the pick of the attack with three wickets.

In reply, Stourport were soon in trouble with both openers quickly dismissed.

John Shackleton (27) and Neil Wildgust (21) provided some measure of resistance but it was left to acting captain Phil Williams to prevent defeat.

Williams' brave 29 not out, with good support from the tail-enders, saw third-placed Stourport close on 145-9.

Cookley's Blakeley completed a fine match with 5-32 and Adam Sellick took 3-52.

There was a different story at Walshes Meadow when weakened Cookley seconds fell to a heavy nine-wicket defeat at in-form Stourport.

Marcus Jones and Alan Pestridge both scored 33 but Cookley's 140-5 was never going to be enough.

Club stalwart Bob Pittaway (2-12) was the pick of the home attack before Stourport knocked off the victory target in only 23 overs to win with ease.

The free-scoring Bryan Colley was unbeaten on 68 and Eddie Giles made 45.
